iRacing Rally Cross World Championship. Mid Season review

We have completed 5 of the 9 rounds of the iRacing Rally Cross World Championship 2019. This is being a very demanding championship, with one round every week, and with very intense racing. UI1-Positive SimRacing reached the world championship for the first time in its history, with two rookies: Otto Taskinen and Dani Mitrani. Our goal was, of course, to play a good role doing our best, but realistically we aimed to acquire experience and to consolidate in the Rally Cross scene for the future.

Otto, however, exhibited a very good pace during the qualifiers, and he was one of the candidates to be ‘Rookie of the year’. He confirmed this nomination after making a P3 in the Qualy of the first round of the championship. However, he couldn’t reach the feature race then, and we have to wait until the next round, were he quickly brilliantly finished in a 4th place. In fact, this second round brought a Positive surprise, as the two drivers reached the feature race clinching the first ‘double top 10’ in a world championship of the team.

The third Round was however a bit disappointing in terms of results, as both drivers were involved in incidents that prevented them to finalize a good result. Both of them, however, showed a good pace and the team committed to improve the results in the next rounds.

The round 4th was historic for us. It took part in the Lucas Oil Circuit, and Otto and Dani reached again the final race. There, Otto started from the pole and opened a small gap while Dani took advantage of other incidents to take the third positions. That was amazing for us: P1 and P3 during some parts of the race. Finally, Otto secured our first victory in a World Championship and Dani finished in P6. A confirmation of our good shape for the championship.

Round 5 was again a difficult one for us: Otto and Dani couldn’t reach the feature race. This reminded us that we are fighting in a World Championship with an incredible level of every participant, and also, this makes us to enjoy much more what we are achieving. There are one 4 rounds to the end and we are confident in completing a second half of the championship in a good shape, with increased experience, aiming to finish with the 2 drivers in the top 10. Currently, Otto is in P7 and Dani in P12.
